We're drinking so early in the day? [She sounds intrigued but isn't raising any objections. A surprise seems like a good start to the morning.] I'll stop by the kitchen on my way, and I promise not to keep you waiting too long.

[ weeell, it's not that kind of drinking, but dax will keep maggie guessing until she arrives. ]

It's never too early for Klingons to drink. You should see them celebrate. All day, all night, and all the next morning. If you're still standing when the sun rises, it's considered a badge of honor and strength. [ paaaause ] So I hope you've got some staying power.

[ it's probably a good thing her surprise isn't an unending barrel of blood wine or they would both be in trouble. as it is, jadzia has her mug of raktajino ready and waiting, door open for maggie to come on in, and troublesome smirk on her face. ]

I did build up quite a tolerance back when I was still playing around in the rich girl party scene, but then, I was never very good at being a spoiled brat. It's been awhile since my last night like that.

[Maggie's smirk doesn't need to be seen. It's audible in her words.] We can test my stamina if you really insist. I hope you'll be able to keep up.

[By now she's peering around the doorway and into Jadzia's room, cup in hand, curious as to whether the surprise actually has anything to do with their banter or if her friend's just allowed Maggie to lead their conversation off on a tangent.]

Remind me to tell you all about Klingons when you get over here.

[ if jadzia were "out" in the sense of being joined to a symbiont, dax would add that she's had seven lifetimes to build up her stamina. maggie should be the one keeping up. but she's still trying to keep that secret, so she bites her tongue.

instead, dax moves forward as soon as maggie pokes her head in. jadzia's grin is still in place, as interested as ever in seeing how maggie will like what she has. reaching for the empty cup, she tips hers sideways to pour her drink into it, careful to keep hers within easy sight once she's finished. for as much as she has poured into maggie's cup, the liquid in jadzia's hasn't gone down even a centimeter. ]

This is a raktajino. Next time, I'm asking for a barrel of blood wine, but at least now my mornings will be right again.

[Maggie grins, raising the cup to sniff at it, and then eying Jadzia's newly topped off mug with raised eyebrows.] I'd have been shocked by the generosity, seeing as you just have one mug full, if it weren't either magic or something close to. I wonder how many free refills you get with that.

[She still wonders about the magic here sometimes, and whether it can possibly be real. Taking a small sip to satisfy her curiosity, Maggie smiles.] That's good. I can see why the coffee here hasn't quite sufficed.

[But she can't help frowning at the notion of blood wine.] I hope blood wine isn't really made from blood. I'd have to decline, in that case. [Heirs to pharmaceutical empires in a world dominated by infectious disease and frequent blood tests don't take chances when it comes to blood and contamination.]

[ jadzia watches with appreciation and a little anticipation as maggie takes her first sip of raktajino. ] I usually like mine double and extra sweet. This is just a normal raktajino, but I'll take it. [ it's better than not having one at all. ]

I'm trying to find out. Right now I've gotten five cups since this morning and one is sitting on my table to be reheated if I run out. So far, it hasn't even made a dent in it, so either it's magic or they've found a way to transcend the laws of physics and I'm not sure which excites me more. Tobin would have loved to see the magic route. He was always so interested in magic tricks.

[ between tobin's memories and jadzia herself, dax really wants to take the thing apart to see how it works, but jadzia isn't yet ready to sacrifice her favorite drink. ]

Knowing Klingons? Probably. It's also more alcoholic than anything humans have, so I wouldn't suggest it to most people anyway.

Sugar, honey, agave nectar, something from another planet entirely? I'm sure we can come up with a way to make your mornings sweeter. [Isn't it sweet of Maggie to offer? badum tsh Really, though, she's used to accommodating anyone's preferences at home, and as soon as she gets her own kitchen here she'll start stocking up again. Shaun was only exaggerating a little when he said she had 500 kinds of tea.

She shudders at the probable literality of blood wine.]
I spent too many years around the family business to go drinking blood.

[It's not just the family business. Maggie spent too long in her post-Rising world, with its litany of blood tests and constant threat of contamination, to have any unnecessary contact with blood.]

You're so sweet, I'm starting to think you're made of candy. [ don't start the puns. dax will happily join in. ] We can try it with each. I don't think I'll be running out anytime soon. ]

I usually don't make a habit of it, either. Klingons are... very dedicated to their heritage and they're a warrior culture. Everything is blood and honor with them. I remember Curzon used to get drunk on it all the time, but some of his best friends were Klingons.
